Church Groups at Our Lady & St. Werburgh Catholic Church
Volunteers at our church and neighbouring churches run several activity groups including a excellent parent's and toddlers group, children's liturgy, a great youth club for all ages, the Clayton Social Group and a Journey Of Faith Group.
Clayton Social Group New
Young at Heart has been running since 2013, and was created to combat loneliness, and give people aged 55 and over a place to socialise and make new friends. We are all about providing a safe and welcoming environment for people who might otherwise feel isolated.
We have either entertainment, activities or a guest speaker along with refreshments, biscuits and bingo.
Meeting times: Last Friday of the month from 1.30pm – 3.30pm.
Subs: £3
Parents & Toddlers Club
The parent and toddler group runs every Wednesday (term time) from 9.30am – 11.00 am. All very welcome.
The group provides a safe, informal environment for parents/carers and pre-school children and babies to meet, play and socialise.
The usual format includes free playtime, creative play at the art table, snack time and the session generally ends with organised songs and rhymes.
Meeting times: Wednesdays 9.30 a.m. – 11.30 a.m. in Our Lady and St Werburgh Parish Hall.
Children's Liturgy Group
The concept of children’s liturgy is to bring the Word of God, ‘The Gospel’ to the children at their level and to enable them to understand the relevance of the gospels in their lives today.
We have two groups. The older group is for school age children starting at about 4 ½ years of age to about 9 years old.
The younger group is for toddlers from 2 years to 4 ½ years.
With the older group is an adult teacher and a helper – no need for parents to come up.
The younger group needs an adult with each child – preferably not the same adult each week. Adults need their chance to develop their faith by listening to the Gospel and the Sermons too.
Meeting times: Every Sunday 10.00am Mass.
Parish House Groups
Two House Groups have been going strong in the parish for just over seven years. One group meets at the Hartleys’ house, the other at the Tierney’s house. The groups meet about six or seven times a year. Each group has around nine members. The groups meet, above all, in friendship.
Music Ministry
The music ministry continues to play an important role in our weekly worship at Clayton.
We are grateful to John Hartley for his on-going dedication in playing the organ at the 8:15 mass.
A number of members of our parish have offered their gifts to support this important ministry. Our thanks go to Dan Tierney, Francois Rouffet, and Michelle Tierney.
Meeting Times: Every Sunday 10.00am Mass
Piety Stall
The concept of children’s liturgy is to bring the Word of God, ‘The Gospel’ to the children at their level and to enable them to understand the relevance of the gospels in their lives today.
The Piety Stall is manned at both Sunday morning Masses by volunteers.
We have stock for First Holy Communion and Confirmation and Christmas, cards for all religious occasions, rosaries, crucifixes, statues and medals and a small stock of books.
We can take special orders on request and would be delighted with any new ideas for stock!
Open Times: after every 8.00 and 10.00 Sunday Mass.
Church Cleaning Team
The church has a wonderful team of volunteer cleaners, but some of the teams, after long service are keen to retire!
The Church itself is cleaned every week by one of six different teams. The Upper Room is done by the other teams.
Volunteer by calling or emailing the parish office.
